What is a breast augmentation?

Procedure
Augmentation Mammoplasty increases the size and improves the appearance of the breasts thanks to the placement of silicone gel prosthesis under the mammary gland or pectoral muscle, resulting in an aesthetic improvement.

Side Effects
Mild to moderate numbness and or swelling of the breasts, change in nipple sensation (increased or decreased), and bruising, which are temporary. The breasts may be susceptible to stimulation for a few weeks.
Risks
- Implant rupture, however it is very rare.
- Scar formation around the implant (capsular contracture) could cause the breast to be hard or slightly misshapen.
- Bleeding and/or infection.
- Other possible risks are an increased or decreased sensation of the nipples or breasts, which may sometimes be permanent.
Recovery
The patient will be able to return to work in just seven days. Should avoid any physical contact with the breasts (except for a bra) for approximately three to four weeks. The scars will gradually soften within three months to 1 year after the operation, depending on each person’s recovery.
Results
The results of an augmentation mammoplasty are stable and long-lasting; the prostheses will have to be changed in the future (10-15 years). There may be changes in your breasts, over time, due to aging, changes in body weight, hormonal factors, and lifestyle.
