What is liposuction?
Liposuction is a minimally invasive procedure that is aimed at extracting fat from areas such as the abdomen, waist, back, thighs, arms, and neck, permanently eliminating it, and creating a better contour and figure of the body.
Duration
Two to four hours, it depends on the amount of tissue removed. It typically requires a change of position (from anterior to posterior and vice versa) and re-preparation of the surgical field and the patient each time a change of position is made.
Anesthesia
General anesthesia or local anesthesia, along with intravenous sedation, can be used.
Hospitalization
It can be done with hospital admission or on an outpatient basis.
Side Effects
Temporary bruising, swelling, numbness, pain, or burning sensations.
Risks
Infection, asymmetry, skin rippling, pigmentation changes (hypo/hyper), skin damage, fluid retention, and/or excessive blood and/or fluid loss.
Recovery
Six to eight days depending on the areas to be treated.
Results
Results can begin to be seen after several weeks, with improvement continuing for several months. It is important to maintain a healthy diet and exercise to enjoy long-term results. The results may vary according to each person.
