What is Otoplasty?
Improves the appearance of the auricular pavilions (ears).
Procedure
Otoplasty consists of repositioning the ears that present some angulation and/or reducing the size of large ears. This procedure is usually performed in children between the ages of four and fourteen and in adulthood.
Duration
Approximately two hours.
Anesthesia
In older children or adults: local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia is administered.
Hospitalization
It is usually an outpatient procedure.

Possible effects associated with the procedure include:

Risks
Cartilage infection, excessive scarring (everyone has a different way of scarring), bruising, or collections of blood that may need to be drained.
Recovery
The patient will be able to resume normal activities in five to seven days and those that require more significant effort (such as contact sports) in one to two months. A special compression garment (ear band) is necessary for four weeks.
Results
Generally permanent. Results may vary according to each patient.
